A high-complexity web project, such as building an online store, is the ideal solution for entrepreneurs who want to eliminate the cost of physical retail space and move their sales online.

Building an online store gives a significant competitive advantage to businesses that want to sell their products to a wider audience. In practice, this kind of website turns a local or regional seller into a player with national or even international reach.

The features of an online store are numerous, complex, and varied – they can't all be covered on a single page. The real benefits become clear once you use the platform, from both the administrator's and the visitor's perspective.

Below is an overview of the features you get when the PROJECTMEDIA team builds your online store:

Are you based in Timisoara or Timis County? We have a dedicated page for local businesses: online store development in Timisoara. For detailed costs, see our full pricing.

Romanian integrations, by name

An online store in Romania doesn't connect to “a payment processor” and “a courier.” It connects to specific, named providers, and the differences between them show up on the invoices, not in the brochures.

Card payments.

We work with Netopia and EuPlatesc, and with Shopify Payments where the store runs on Shopify. Netopia doesn't publish its standard per-transaction fee — it's disclosed after sign-up, based on your industry and volume. EuPlatesc publishes its Standard package “starting from 1.2% per transaction,” with the final rate also set after a conversation. One detail to know before you choose a platform: on Shopify, using an external processor instead of Shopify Payments adds a platform transaction fee. In practice, a good local contract at 1.2-1.5% doesn't stay at 1.2-1.5% if you move it to Shopify.

Shipping.

Sameday publishes its WooCommerce plugin for free on wordpress.org, with more than 4,000 active installations. For Cargus there's a dedicated plugin in the same place, the successor to the old UrgentCargus plugin — the old plugin has to be uninstalled first, otherwise the two conflict. FAN Courier connects through multi-courier plugins, which also cover Sameday, Cargus, DPD, and GLS. In every case you need your own contract with the courier: you sign the contract, and we connect the store to your account. The fuel surcharge applies on top of the negotiated rate and is recalculated monthly.

Invoicing.

Both SmartBill and Oblio have an official, free WooCommerce plugin that issues the invoice automatically when the order status changes and syncs inventory. Oblio costs 29 EUR per year for the Unlimited plan and is free for one year from account creation. SmartBill starts at 5.84 EUR per month, excluding VAT, on the Silver plan, which covers 30 invoices a month. The prices aren't directly comparable: one is annual, the other monthly, and they cover different things. When we choose between them, we compare the plan limits against your actual invoice volume, not the starting prices. e-Factura is included in both providers' plans.

eMAG Marketplace.

eMAG only publishes the range: the commission varies between 7% and 25%, depending on the product category. The category-by-category rate table isn't public — you see it in the contract before signing. There's no registration fee and no account management fee. The marketplace feed isn't included in the store package; it's quoted separately once we know the category.

Subscription and card fees over 36 months: WooCommerce or Shopify

The cost of a store doesn't stop at launch, and the part that adds up every month isn't the subscription — it's the card processing fees. The table tracks exactly these two cost items over 36 months, with monthly billing — the option almost everyone picks at the start. Scenario: 150 orders a month, an average order value of 250 RON, meaning 37,500 RON collected by card every month.

Cost item, 36 monthsWooCommerceShopify BasicShopify Grow
Platform subscription, billed monthly0 RON — free plugin139 RON/month = 5,004 RON369 RON/month = 13,284 RON
Same plans, billed annually99 RON/month = 3,564 RON279 RON/month = 10,044 RON
Hostingour fee, added on top of the costs in the tableincludedincluded
Card fees for the scenario aboveEuPlatesc, from 1.2%: from 16,200 RON. Netopia: negotiated fee, not published1.9% + 1.25 RON/transaction = approx. 32,400 RON1.7% + 1.25 RON/transaction = approx. 29,700 RON
Courier and invoicing pluginsSameday, Cargus, SmartBill, Oblio: free pluginsconnectors we haven't verifiedsame as above
Subtotal: subscription + card feesfrom 16,200 RONapprox. 37,400 RONapprox. 43,000 RON

Four notes on the table:

  • The WooCommerce column is a minimum, not a promise. The 16,200 RON figure assumes you get EuPlatesc's published starting rate of 1.2%, while the final rate is set after negotiation. At a negotiated 1.8%, the same line becomes 24,300 RON. The Shopify Payments fee, on the other hand, is public and non-negotiable. These figures aren't directly comparable, which is why we don't declare a winner in the table.
  • Hosting isn't like for like. Shopify includes it in the subscription. With WooCommerce, hosting and maintenance are billed at our rates and come on top of the figures above. The WooCommerce column is, by design, incomplete.
  • Annual billing cuts the subscription cost by 1,440 RON over three years on Basic and by 3,240 RON on Grow — 29% and 24%, respectively.
  • Grow becomes cheaper than Basic only above roughly 115,000 RON in card payments per month. Below that threshold, Basic is the cheaper option.

The scenario of 150 orders at 250 RON is a typical retail profile, chosen as a benchmark. If you sell B2B, with a handful of large orders, the weight of card fees changes completely; if some orders are paid cash on delivery, the fee applies only to the rest. Shopify is worth considering when you want to run the store without technical administration and are fine with its published fee. WooCommerce makes sense when Romanian services — invoicing, shipping, inventory management — need to connect tightly and without license costs.

Platform figures verified against the official websites on August 15, 2026. Domain, licenses and maintenance aren't in the table because they don't depend on the platform; their three-year cost is on the website development page.

Legal requirements for an online store in Romania

The difference between a presentation website and a store is that a store enters into contracts. That comes with a set of legal obligations, which we build into the store's structure from the very first sketch.

  • Consumer information. The seller's identification details, the total price before the order is placed and the shipping costs must be accessible before checkout is completed (OUG 34/2014). The link to ANPC (the consumer protection authority) and the information on alternative dispute resolution (OG 38/2015) go in the footer. The link to the EU ODR platform is no longer mandatory: the platform was shut down on July 20, 2025, under Regulation (EU) 2024/3228, which repealed Regulation 524/2013, and any references still left on websites must be removed. It's the first thing we check on an existing store.
  • The 14-day right of withdrawal (Emergency Ordinance OUG 34/2014, amended by OUG 58/2022). The period runs from the date the consumer physically takes possession of the product, not from when the order is placed. When a product is returned, you must refund all payments received, including the standard outbound shipping cost, within 14 days at most. The return policy must be published, include the withdrawal form and state clearly who pays for return shipping. Exceptions must be listed explicitly: personalized products, sealed products opened after delivery that can't be returned for hygiene reasons, and downloaded digital content.
  • GDPR. Customer accounts, newsletter, abandoned cart, marketing pixels: each is a separate processing activity, with its own legal basis and separate consent where required. The privacy policy, the cookie policy and a banner that actually blocks scripts until consent is given are all part of what we deliver.
  • Terms and conditions. The most important clause is the one that sets when the contract is concluded. If you tie it to the automatic order confirmation, a pricing error in the catalog becomes a valid contract you are required to honor; if you tie it to the shipping confirmation, you have time to stop the order.
  • e-Factura. Reporting invoices through RO e-Factura, Romania's national e-invoicing system, has been mandatory for B2B transactions since January 1, 2024, and for B2C transactions since January 1, 2025 (Government Emergency Ordinance 120/2021, as amended), with each invoice submitted within 5 days of issue. A store that sells to consumers is already required to comply.

We deliver the legal pages as templates for your legal counsel to validate. The text above is for information only and is not a substitute for legal advice.

What happens after launch

A store isn't finished at launch the way a presentation website is. That's why we spell out what we do and what stays with you.

Products.

We load the structure, categories, attributes, and a demo set of products, then hand over the store in a training session that we record, so you can revisit it when you add your first product on your own. Product photography and descriptions are not included: they're ongoing content work that either your team takes on or we handle for a separate fee.

Orders.

We set up the flow — confirmation, automatic invoice, AWB shipping label sent to the courier, delivery notification — and test it with real orders before launch. Replying to customers, processing returns, and dealing with the courier stay with you: they're the store's day-to-day operations.

Post-launch support: 3 months.

We cover fixes, workflow adjustments, and admin questions. Maintaining a store is a different job from maintaining a presentation website: platform and plugin updates that directly affect payment and shipping, monitoring failed orders, a backup before every update. When a presentation website breaks, it's obvious; when a store stops sending out shipping labels (AWBs), it shows up in customer complaints.

After the 3 months.

The store stays yours and keeps running without us. What doesn't go away are the platform and plugin updates, which on a store can't be put off forever. That's why we recommend a monthly maintenance plan once the support period ends. It's not mandatory and it's not a condition of delivery — if you have an in-house technical person, we hand the procedure over to them.

What's not included in the package, spelled out so it's in the quote from day one: migrating the catalog from an existing store, setting up shipping rates by zone and weight, translating product listings, connecting to an existing ERP, eMAG or Google Shopping feeds, the platform subscription if you choose Shopify, payment processor fees and high-performance hosting for large catalogs. The full list of exclusions is on the pricing page.

Online store: from 2,000 EUR, final price — we're not VAT-registered, so no VAT is added to the invoice. Timeline: 4-6 weeks from when we receive your materials.

Evo Concept Premium business website for Evo Concept — +25% online inquiries and +30% revenue

Evo Concept, a Timisoara showroom and supplier of interior design materials, worked with top European suppliers — Giorgio Graesan, Roberto Cavalli, Antrax, Maytoni — but its old website didn't reflect that standard at all. We built a premium online presence, structured around the real logic of its product range, and launched an SEO campaign that delivered its first results within 6 months: +25% online inquiries and +30% revenue compared with the year before we started working together (according to public data from ANAF, the Romanian tax authority).

Web Design Timisoara - Evo Concept

Mondial Textile B2B online store on WooCommerce — over 55,000 RON in monthly sales within the first 6 months

AS Piscine, a pool and spa construction company in Timisoara, had a website that reflected neither the experience it had built up nor the distinct audiences it served — private clients and businesses with completely different needs. We built a business website structured around that reality and ran an SEO campaign that brought in 90% of the site's traffic purely from organic search. Online quote requests: up 60%. Revenue: up 17% compared with the year before we started working together (according to public data from ANAF, the Romanian tax authority).

Atosa Romania, a supplier of professional equipment for commercial kitchens and pastry shops, wanted an online presence that would sell, not just inform. We built a business website with a detailed product structure and ran an SEO campaign that brought in 95% of the site's traffic purely from organic search. The results in numbers: over 700% revenue growth compared with the year before we started working together, according to public data from ANAF (the Romanian tax authority).

Web Design FAQs

1Which platform should we choose: WooCommerce or Shopify?

It depends on your business model. WooCommerce gives you full control, lower long-term costs, and unlimited customization — a good fit if you have more than 100 products or special integration needs. Shopify is faster to launch and requires no technical maintenance, but it comes with monthly fees and customization limits. We recommend a platform after a conversation about your catalog, order volume, and the integrations you need.

2How long does it take to build an online store?

A working online store is delivered in 4-6 weeks. The timeline depends on the number of products, the integrations required (invoicing, shipping, ERP), and how quickly we receive the content and product photos. For large catalogs, products can be imported automatically from a file.

3How much does an online store cost?

An online store starts at 2,000 EUR. The final price depends on the number of products, integrations with external systems, and the level of design customization. You get a fixed quote before we start, with no hidden costs.

4Which payment methods can you integrate?

We integrate card payments through the processors commonly used in Romania (Netopia, EuPlatesc, Stripe), plus cash on delivery, bank transfer, and, on request, installment payments. The choice depends on the type of products you sell and your target audience.

5Can I manage products and stock myself?

Yes. You get an admin panel where you add products, change prices, manage inventory, and track orders, with no technical skills required. At launch we run a training session, and you keep the documentation.

6Is the online store optimized for Google?

Yes. Every store includes basic technical SEO: a proper category and product structure, editable titles and meta descriptions, clean URLs, a sitemap, Product markup for rich results, and page speed optimization.
